-T.G.Y.B- Fire and Ice

  "I don't get it!" Tails yelled in frustration as the base completely disappeared before his eyes. Covered up by smooth ripple-less water.
  "How come I never noticed it!? It was right there! What's worse, is I don't know what he's planning!" He slammed his fist against the metal panel in front of him as the plane flew itself away from this unknown island.
   Tails never was the type to get very angry. Few things bothered him and it just so happened that the two things that bothered him the most, happened at once. Not noticing something that was seemingly obvious, or that he thought was noticeable and not being able to figure out something; what someone's plan was, how to fix a problem, or how to build something. His frustration seethed through him and he wasn't sure what to do. Inside and outside he was as irritated as could be, but no matter how upset he was, he was determined to figure this out.
   At the back of the plane Sonic held on, as he gazed upon the clear stretch of water. His mind was just as perplexed as Tails, but something different was heavy on his thoughts. Dr. Eggman was always causing trouble and would think his plans were genius, unfailing, or even worth fearing. Most of the time, that wasn't the case. Sonic always beat him with little to no sweat. This time, seemed different. Deep down inside, he felt this tiny bit sense of fear, as if whatever he was planning could be harmful and might possibly succeed.
  "What're you thinking Sonic..?" he said to himself shaking his head back and forth quickly.
  "As if Egghead was that smart, psh" He forced his mind to get rid of any fearful thoughts and he seemed to be fine.
  The plane continued to glide through the air on autopilot and was on it's way back to Mystic Ruins. Sonic decided to relax while he could, as soon as they got back, he knew there would be some major investigating going down.
  "Tails, do you thin..."
  "Hold on Sonic!" Without much warning the plane started to spiral to the left as Sonic held on as tight as he possibly could. The aircraft straightened out and Sonic looked over to see what happened. Falling into the water behind him was one of Dr.Eggman's robots making quite a splash. By the quick glance that Sonic got of it, it looked damaged. It had been in some type of fight before it was sent flying through the air.
  "Sonic! Here comes another one!"
  "I got this one!" Sonic smirked just before he used a homing attack to blast it to smithereens and land back safely on the plane.
  "Where are they coming from buddy?" Sonic asked as he started looking around.
  "Down there!" Tails pointed down to the other half of Mystic Ruins where the Master Emerald rested, guarded by none other then Knuckles the Echidna. He stood on the steps leading up to the jewel, pounding one robot into the air after another. There were at least hundreds of them making their way toward the emeralds resting place. They wanted something bad, and that something was the Master Emerald.
  "See ya Tails!" Sonic gave him a quick salute and jumped off the plane diving toward the army of robots. He had lots of momentum and lots of power building up as he spun himself into a ball, spiraling toward the mesh of machines. Faster and, faster and, faster, until he hit the ground with a blue blast surrounding his impact. The smoke slowly started to clear and Sonic stood in the middle of a wreckage of scrap metal. Not one robot left moving around. Knuckles crossed his arms, and grunted in Sonic's direction.
  "You're late." he said sarcastically. Sonic just chuckled, grinned, and gave him a thumbs up.
  "You must have really done it now. Did you lose your temper and get Egghead angry?"
  "Watch it Sonic." Knuckles said in a somewhat "read to fight" tone.
  "I haven't seen that big idiot for awhile. Or at least not here anyways. I was minding my own business, guarding the emerald, like always, and these guys showed up." he gestured toward the beaten pile of robots.
  "The last time Eggman came after your' emerald was when Chaos was around..."
  "And we all know how that turned out." Knuckles said rolling his eyes.
  "That water brain nearly destroyed the city because of that dense-headed "genius". Which means that Eggman is trying to the Master Emerald for something big."
  "That can't be good..." that sense of fear started to arise in Sonic again as this new devlopment came into the picture. Sonic paced back and forth with his hand on his chin thinking. Knuckles tapped him on the shoulder and he turned his head in the Echidna's  direction.
  "Well, we have bigger problems...." The red Echidna pointed to two giant robots coming their way.
  "Literally..." They were a little different from Eggman's other robots, but not anything these two couldn't handle. One stood about twenty feet tall and the other seemed about the same height or a bit taller. They weren't very fluidly moving robots, but they looked like they held quite a punch. Everything was opposite about them. One was red were as the other was blue, one was thinner where as the other was thick. Fire and ice tendencies. The definitely weren't your every day Eggman robots, they looked ready to do an increased amount of damage and that they wouldn't stop until they got what they came for. The on the left which was covered in blue and black panels, looked frosted and cold. It's freeze gun attached to it's left arm wasn't too appealing either. On the right stood the red robot, with it's fiery complexion. It's eyebrows were carved in such a way that no matter how you looked at him, he was showing anger. The fire shooting out of his left hand burned the grass around him and was ready to take on anything.
  "Piece of cake." Sonic said looking at Knuckles. Knuckles just grinned and nodded his head. They started to rush toward the two iron and metal giants, when all of a sudden they heard a high pitch whistling sound. Sonic stopped in mid-run and honed in on the sound.
  It seemed close and whatever it was coming in their direction. The more he focused on the sound the louder it became, until he realized what he had to do.
  "Knuckles! Down!" both of our heroes went diving toward the ground as two missiles just missed them by a hair and crashed into the giants. Metal flew everywhere, some were scolding hot while some were ice cool. Around the crash site was singed grass and burnt plant-life. Knuckles wasn't to happy about this peaceful area getting disrupted, but at least the Master Emerald was safe.
   They both turned around to look in the direction of where the missiles made birth from. Standing behind them, in a robot form was the X-Tornado with their little friend Tails manning the contraption.
  "Ha! Thanks Tails!" Tails just showed a smile of happiness and satisfaction. It always made him feel glad and somewhat confident to know that he was useful at times. The Tornado slowly started to morph back to it's aircraft form and as soon as it was finished Tails flew out of the cockpit and landed next to Knuckles and Sonic. He looked at blue best friend and noticed something about him. He didn't seem as composed as usually, but he shook it off and went straight to the topic.
  "This isn't good guys. Do you think he'll be back?"
  "Hpmh, not likely, or at least not for awhile after that." Knuckles said pridefully and full of confidence.
  "I don't Knux. I think it's better to be safe than sorry with this. If Eggman gets a hold of that emerald to help him in whatever he's planning, it can't be good."
  "I agree, but if we all stay here then we won't get anywhere closer to solving this."
  "Good point Tails. Knuckles," Sonic said, making sure he got the Echidna's attention.
  "Tails and I are going to head to Station Square to see if Eggman's showed his sorry face there recently. You guard the Master Emerald. Don't let the doctor out smart you again." he ended sarcastically.
  "AS IF! Kunckles said quickly and with diginity.
  "Let's use these guys," Tails threw Knuckles and Sonic little watches that matched the one wrapped around his wrist.
  "I don't think knowing the time's going to help us Tails..."
  "That's not what they are Knuckles, they're communicators. It's for us to keep in touch. If anything goes wrong we can get a hold of each other and call for backup."
  "Great thinking buddy! Now let's get moving!" Sonic sped off quicker than you had time to think and his fox friend followed behind him with his two twin-tails spinning at high speeds.
   Knuckles walked up to the green jewel that he guarded most of his life and placed a hand on it.
  "I hope he's not planning what I'm thinking..." Knuckles said looking off into the sky. "or we're all doomed."
